Community at Onyx Church
We can only grow to know, love & follow Jesus if we are doing it together.
Life Together
As image-bearers of God, we are both created and redeemed for community.
From Jesus' command to live "at peace with one another" (Mark 9:50) to John's repeated call to "love one another" (1 John 3:11,23; 4:7,11; 2 John 1:5), the entire message of the New Testament is that we can only grow to know, love & follow Jesus if we are doing it TOGETHER.
This means that in addition to our weekly Worship Gatherings, we also spend time building intentional relationships where we can put the gospel into practice and grow as we apply the truth and grace of God's word to the struggles of real life.
Birth through 5th Grade
Showing our kids the love of Jesus and teaching them His gospel.
For kids (up to 5th grade), this happens during our Worship Gathering. Every week, a team of committed volunteers pray over, sing with, and teach the Bible to our kids in ways they can understand and respond to (answering LOTS of questions along the way)!
Our goal is to partner with parents in showing our kids the love of Jesus and teaching them His gospel. To do this we use the Brite Curriculum (from Awana).
To ensure a fun and safe learning environment, we divide our classes into:

Real relationships, biblical truth, and gospel grace for the teenage years.
For students (6th-12th grade), we meet at Onyx Church twice a month to play games, build relationships, study the Bible, and learn to apply the gospel to the unique challenges that come in the teenage years.
All students are welcome to join us (whether they or their parents attend Onyx or not), so bring a friend and join us from 3:30-5:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.

Building Gospel-Shaped Community in homes throughout our city.
For all of our Covenant Members & Regular Attenders (18 & up), we host Gospel Communities during the week in homes all around Surprise with the goal of building Gospel-Shaped Community.
To do this, we follow the model given in Acts 2:42 as we "devote ourselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." As we do, our prayer is that this would result in the fulfillment of Acts 5:42, where "every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus."
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
"Every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus."
